Project 2: Treasure Chest, 3/10
I used a chest I found sitting in front of a friend's house as the reference for my treasure chest model:

My Model:

To model this, I started with a cube, then extruded to produce the metal pieces on the edges. For the hinges and clasps, I modeled each piece and made use of the symmetry tool to copy it across the model. Particularly useful tools were extruding from a plane or hand-drawn polygon.

For long, thin wire pieces like on the handle above, I used the Bend deformer on a cylinder, and also extruded a circular plane along a curve.
Textured model:

I used a painted wood texture I found online for the wooden surfaces, and a Blinn material for the metallic surfaces.
Treasure:

My reference chest belongs to an artist friend, so I featured one of her paintings (left), a painting by Mary Cassatt (right), and a well-used paint palette as the treasure in my treasure chest.
